Sue Jane Hancher, 60, of Pine Village passed away in the arms of her family on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 3:58 A.M. at her residence in Pine Village, Indiana after her extensive battle with Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer.
Sue was born on November 11, 1963 in East Chicago to Glenda L. Johnson. Sue grew up in a large family along the banks of Pine Creek at Rocky Ford, Indiana. Sue was an absolute tom-boy and loved anything with a motor. She loved riding motorcycles and driving or cruising anywhere the road may have taken her. A free spirit, gypsy soul as many may say about her. She was known to be , steadfast, honest to the core, independent, courageous, strong, assertive, and extremely protective over the things and ones she truly cared for.
Sue attended Seeger High School and later West Lafayette High School where she then, met Jeffrey Hancher who she married in 1981. She soon began her career working her way up in many food chains where she then became the District Manager of several Hardees restaurants over the course of 10 years. Sue always took pride in her hard work and also became a welder working at Hyster, Wabash National and other companies. At the end of her career she retired from Meijer where she worker customer service as well in the cash office.
In the Fall of 1990, Sue and Jeff welcomed their 1st daughter, Cassidie, and in September of 1992 their 2nd daughter Brooke. She loved being a mother and the journey of raising her daughters teaching them how to fish, sort and collect rocks, Indian artifacts, shells, rare coins, and interesting antiques amongst many other things. Sue was a collector herself of items such as rare and unusual lighters, rare or unique currency, and anything old and vintage. She had an acquired nose for scents and always enjoyed making candles and burning incents. She enjoyed an array of music, nearly all and attending numerous concerts, but had this biggest love for 70s and 80s Classic rock! She passed along her enormous love for music and any good beat to her 2 daughters and the 4 amazing grandchildren she spent her most precious moments with! Sue was a lover of animals, except rodents!
She later then met Mike Odle whom she married in 2008 and resided in Lafayette with. After the great loss of Mike in 2014, she moved back to Warren County where she lived the rest of her life and enjoyed being a grandma and homemaker. “Suzie Q” as known and called by some was a loving and devoted Mother, Grandma Suzie “ju-ju”, daughter, sister, and friend.
Sue was preceded in death by: husband, Michael Odle, father, Max G. Cronk, grandmother, Mildred “Sue” Beason, grandfather, Richard “Rich” Beason, grandfather, Paul I. Johnson, several aunts and uncles, and her/our very beloved “Mag Pie” Maggie a brindle pit bull, her truest companion of 14 fantastic years.
Surviving are; mother Glenda Johnson (Pine Village), daughters: Cassidie Hancher (Pine Village), Brooke Hancher (West Lafayette), 4 AMAZING grandchildren; Alayna Jane Hancher (West Lafayette), Wyatt Joseph Brier (Pine Village), Owen Grant Hancher (West Lafayette), and Jaxon Lee Maddox Hancher (West Lafayette). 2 Siblings: Michael Cronk (Boswell) and Kristi (Cronk) Summers (Lafayette). 1 Niece, Paige (Brandon) Frost. 2 Nephews: Tyler Summer and Chase Summer all from Lafayette, IN. 1 great Niece, Nora Frost, step-daughter, Kimber (Odle) Osbourn, many cousins and her sweetheart ‘Ki-Ki’ Juliet!
A private service will be held in the future for immediate loved ones, as requested by Sue.
