Janis Lea (Watkins) Gosewehr

Janis Lea Watkins Gosewehr, 61, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed from this earth peacefully in her home on Monday, August 12, 2024.

Born October 29, 1962, to Kathleen Watkins in Lafayette, Indiana, Janis lived a life full of love and brought joy to everyone who knew her. Janis graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1981. She went on to work for Purdue University, in various departments, where she retired after 33 years as an administrative assistant.

Janis was an amazing mom to her only daughter, Megan. The two “Disney nerds” shared many joyful visits to Walt Disney World, their favorite place. Alongside a love of Disney, Janis was an avid horror movie enthusiast and rock-n-roll music fanatic. Janis was a proud supporter of the Democratic Party and was passionate about encouraging others to exercise their right to vote. Janis loved her family more than anything. She was known for her loving heart, fun sense of humor, and outgoing personality. Janis was a huge supporter of Lori’s Kitty Rescue through whom she adopted her own furbabies, Rajah and Kierra.

Janis was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen and grandmother Minerva Cook. Left to cherish Janis’ memory are her daughter Megan, siblings Brenda Smith, Dianna Maxwell (Husband: Russell), Gregory Watkins (Wife: Melissa), many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and countless friends.

Per her wishes, Janis will have a Celebration of Life at Happy Hollow Park (shelter 4) in West Lafayette on October 19, 2024, from 1pm-4pm. If you wish, feel free to bring a covered dish for everyone to enjoy while sharing stories about Janis’s life. Drinks will be provided.
